Pay Scales

We review pay scales each year in September. Below we have outlined the rates for different trainers across the companies in the ECG group. Comments are welcomed.

We believe we pay well but do expect staff to go beyond the basics and be flexible to ensure everybody's expectations are met. Additional expenses can be incurred but should be agreed before the event. To claim these, please click here for an expense form. Before you work with any of the companies you will be sent confirmation of rates in the letter of engagement. The details below only act as a guide and may vary.

Wilderness Expertise Training (WET) Trainer rates :

Following a successful trial in 2004 we are continuing to use the Day Rate Pay Generator. This is outlined below and calculates each day of a course. For more details contact Jon in the office.

Start here with £95 for each full day worked

If you are a Course Director, add £10 plus £5 for each instructor group you are in charge of

Add £5 if there is no teacher support, or if you are working alone

Add £10 if you are responsible for safety overnight, ie group camping

Add £50 if working from late afternoon on the evening before the course starts

Take away £10 if meals during the course are provided

The total equals your day rate

Please note a new policy to pay travel @20p per mile to a max of £60, unless separate negotiations take place before engagement agreed. This is to enable accurate costing to clients.

Wilderness Expertise Ltd (WE)

The rates for 2006 expedition contracts are outlined below. These are all confirmed in the contract but this should act as a guide. Louise in the Office coordinates the contracts.

UK Training days:

Training and pre-departure days in the UK are paid for at £75 per day. Visits to the school are outlined in the contract but subsequent visits are re-inbursed at £60 per half day/evening.

The first week of expedition:

£500 for the first week + £50 for each trip you have lead for WE in the past to a maximum of £600.

Subsequent weeks of expedition:

£450 for subsequent weeks + £50 for each trip you have lead for WE in the past to a maximum of £600.

Additional days on expedition:

Divide your subsequent weekly rate by 7 to give the day rate and multiply by the number of additional days.

Medical Expertise (ME) Trainers

Rates for medical trainers depend on the type of course you are running. Expenses can be claimed on top when pre-arranged. Please note a new policy to pay travel @20p per mile to a max of £60 based from your home address, unless separate negotiations take place before engagement is agreed. This is to enable accurate costing to clients.

Lead Trainers on REC courses:

Level 2 - £150 per day

Level 3 - £175 per day

Level 4 - £200 per day

Level 5 - £225 per day

Level 6 - £250 per day

Support Trainers:

Any Level - £100 per day
